Statement of Faith
the scriptures
We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings. God has perfectly and completely preserved His Word, and the Scriptures are, and do not merely contain, the Word of God. The Scriptures afford the basis for our doctrine, practice, and habits both in public and private life, and they are the supreme and final authority. These Scriptures are the complete and divine revelation of God to man.
the godhead
Genesis 1:26 | Deuteronomy 6:4 | 1 Chronicles 29:12-13 | Psalm 139: 7-10 | Romans 11:33; 2 Corinthians 13:14; James 1:17; Jude 24-25
We believe in the one living and triune God Who is the perfect and infinite Spirit and source and end of all things. He is eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three persons of the Godhead each possess equally the perfections of personality, self-existence, immutalibility, truth, love, holiness, omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence.
the father
We believe that God the Father is an infinite, personal, spirit, Who is perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. He has chosen to concern Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, and He answers prayer. He saves from sin and death all men who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
the son
Matthew 1:18-23; Mark 10:45; John 1:1, 14; 20:1-31; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 8:24; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-8; Colossians 2:9-10; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 2:1-2; 4:2-3; Revelation 20:6
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, and that He became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary in order to reveal God and redeem sinful man. He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious substitutionary sacrifice, and our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministries of representative, intercessor, and advocate. The blessed hope of the Christian is the personal, imminent, pre-tribulational, pre-millennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones. He will subsequently return to earth with His saints to establish His millennial kingdom.
The Holy Spirit
John 16:8-11, 13; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Ephesians 1:13-14; 5:18; 1 John 2:20, 27
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person co-equal with the Father and the Son. He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. The Spirit is the Supernatural Agent of regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling them and sealing them unto the day of redemption. He is the Divine Teacher Who guides believers into all truth through the illumination of the Word. It is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit.
creation
Genesis 1:1, 11, 24, 26-27; 2:21-25; Exodus 20:11; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 3:4; 11:3; Revelation 10:6
We believe that the Genesis account of creation is to be accepted literally and not allegorically or figuratively. Man was created directly in God's own image and after His own likeness. Man's creation was not a matter of evolution or evolutionary change of species, or a development through interminable periods of time from lower to higher forms. All animals and vegetable life were made directly by God in six literal, twenty-four hour periods.
satan
Job 1:6-12; Isaiah 14:12-16; Ezekiel 28:1-19; John 8:44; Ephesians 2:2; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-10; Revelation 11:15; 20:10
We believe that Satan was once holy and enjoyed heavenly honors, but, through pride and self-centered ambition to be as the Almighty, fell and drew after him a host of angels. He is now the malignant prince of the power of the air and the unholy god of this world whose powers are limited by the permissive will of God. He is the enemy of God and Christ, the tempter of man, the accuser of saints, the author of all false religions, the chief power behind the present apostasy, the lord of the Antichrist, and the author of all the powers of darkness. He is destined to final defeat at the hands of God's Son and reserved for judgment of eternal justice in the Lake of Fire, a place prepared for him and his angels.
the nature of man
Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, and that in Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Man is totally depraved and utterly unable, of himself, to remedy his lost condition.
the salvation of man
Acts 15:11; Romans 3:24-25; 5:1, 9; 8:1; 1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 2:8-9
We believe that the salvation of man is and always has been wholly of grace through faith and made possible through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the only atonement for sins. The death of the Lord Jesus Christ for man was a voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner's place, the just dying for the unjust, the Lord bearing man's sins in His own body on the tree that man might be pardoned and receive the gift of eternal life. No man is justified before God by any works of righteousness which he has done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer's shed blood is God's righteousness imputed to him.
the church
Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:27-28; Acts 8:36-39; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-33; 12:4-11, 12-14; 2 Corinthians 11:2; 12:12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:7-12; 5:25-27; Colossians 2:9-13; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11; 1 Peter 3:21
We believe that the Church universal, designated in the Scriptures as the body and espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born again persons of this present age. The establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament. The two ordinances of the Church are water baptism and the Lord's Supper, neither of which are means of salvation. God sovereignly bestows gifts to His Church, and the gifts of evangelists, pastors, and teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints today. Speaking in tongues and the working of authenticating miracles gradually decreased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority established.
the last days
Daniel 9:27; Matthew 24:15-21; 25:41-46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 16:19-26; 23:43; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 3:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Jude 6-7; Revelation 6:1; 19:11-20:15
We believe that the souls of the redeemed at death are absent from the body and present with the Lord where they await the first resurrection when the spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord. The souls of unbelievers remain after death in conscious misery until the second judgment when body, soul and spirit will be reunited. They shall appear before the Great White Throne judgment and will be cast into the Lake of Fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment. The return of Christ for His bride, the Church, will be pre-tribulational and pre-millennial. The translation of the Church will be followed by the fulfillment of Israel's seventieth week, as mentioned by the prophet Daniel, while the Church will be in heaven. The period of Israel's seventieth week will be a time of great tribulation and judgment on the earth. The millennial period will be the reign of Christ over a literal earthly kingdom, and there will be a bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.
